Cluster

I’m excited to share an album release of improvised music by myself, on electric bass, and the extraordinarily talented vocalist, Jenny Barnes.

The album is titled Cluster and is available to stream and download at Bandcamp. You can listen here.

Cluster was recorded at Pughouse Studios on June 26. The album comprises of 4 improvisations.

The title, Cluster, is reflective of my interest at the moment to explore the beating effect created by dissonant notes, or close intervals. I am particularly focussed on exploring dissonance in the lower register of the bass. Jenny is very flexible and fluid improviser, and in some of these improvisations we create some great ‘clusters’ with our instruments. Also, the photo image I used for this album is of Goldfish glowing bright pink, and squashed together in a dimly lit fish tank. I find the image strange and engaging.

Jenny and I have been playing in a duo setting since the start of 2016. Jenny is an exceptional improviser and a real joy to play with.Cluster_1600x1600
